Pohatu Penguins Farmstay

Enjoy a farmstay where you’ll be welcomed by tranquil surroundings and many breeds of sheep! Pohatu Penguins offer accommodation for you or a group of your friends and family surrounded by many private beaches, bush and many walks to explore. Each unit is separated and offers privacy and there is a fully equipped communal (shared) kitchen, linen, toilet, shower.

Pack a bag with some clothes, shoes and food ready for your 24-48 hour stay. The farmstay includes a complementary penguin tour, discounted kayak tour and many private walk opportunities.

Pohatu/Flea Bay is a working sheep and cattle farm and was the first one officially established on the Banks Peninsula in 1843. It offers a great off-grid experience as there is no cell phone reception.

The road requires 4WD due to the terrain as it follows a steep gravel road close to cliff edges. The farmstay is a 30 minutes drive from Akaroa and on the south-eastern corner of Banks Peninsula is Pohatu/Flea Bay.
